Delivering Complex Projects for a World Leader in Logistics and Freight Forwarding

Challenge A world leader in logistics and freight forwarding and delivery wanted to consolidate their warehouses around Heathrow into a single unit and close down the existing units. They also needed a four-year strategy for all projects in the UK and internationally.

Solution We provided front-end consultancy to determine the extent of each project, including project detail, detailed cost and program, communication requirements, installation of x-ray and scanning equipment, mechanical and specialist A/C, location analysis, property and real estate, analysis of staff, risk assessment, grants, and negotiating strategy/contracts. We carried out consultancy, design, and complex project management for approximately four years throughout the UK and internationally at locations such as Heathrow, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen, Frankfurt, Moscow, and Paris. All locations were very different, as some were airside (within an airport) and some were public areas (offices and new builds), all inclusive of change management and relocation. We also included a new logistic facility at Heathrow and two inbound and two outbound call centres (100 seats per unit).

We worked with the client to design the inside out to determine size and characteristics, including parking, unloading, racking, office and warehouse layouts, power requirements, mechanical requirements, operational security, branding, and staff retention. We delivered projects on time, within program, and within budget, including move management and relocation of staff.

Results The client was able to consolidate their warehouses around Heathrow into a single unit, which improved efficiency and reduced costs. They also had a four-year strategy for all projects in the UK and internationally. The new logistic facility at Heathrow and two inbound and two outbound call centres (100 seats per unit) were successfully implemented.
